Port Vale has parted ways with director of David Flitcroft after three years in Burslem.
The 50-year-old former Chester, Rochdale, and Bury winger joined Vale in February 2021, having previously managed Barnsley, Bury, Swindon, and Mansfield.
Vale earned him his third promotion from English football’s fourth tier in 2022.
Despite reaching the Carabao Cup quarter-finals this season, they have dropped to 23rd place in League One, six points from safety after 37 games.
After winning six of this season’s first seven league games, Vale has subsequently won only two of the remaining thirty.
Manager Andy Crosby was fired on February 5, although Vale have continued to struggle under his successor, Darren Moore, with only two points from a potential 24.
Moore signed an unusually long five-and-a-half-year contract, and Vale fans have publicly reacted negatively to Flitcroft, the younger brother of former Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers, and England Under-21s midfielder Garry Flitcroft.
According to a club release, “Port Vale can confirm that David Flitcroft has departed his position as director of football.
“The choice was taken mutually.
“A further update will be made in due course but our collective focus now remains on retaining our League One status, as we prepare for this weekend’s match against Burton Albion.”
Vale will be trying to halt their 14-game winless streak against a Burton side four places and six points higher in the table.
