Are the 49ers’ tight ends getting better or worse?
Let us take stock.
George Kittle
He was an All-Pro this season, which is an incredible feat for a 30-year-old tight end. Kittle has aged quite nicely for a player who has given and received so much harm over his career. Nonetheless, he faltered down the stretch, with only two catches for 27 yards in the NFC Championship Game and two catches for a meager four yards in the Super Bowl. He is expected to cost the 49ers more than $21 million against the salary cap next season, and they do not use him enough to justify paying him so much money. This could be his final year with the team.

Charlie Woerner
An unrestricted free agent who caught three receptions last season and 11 across his four-year career. The 49ers need a better backup tight end.

Ross Dwelley
An unrestricted free agent who caught just one pass last season. No idea why he was on the team.

Cam Látu
A third-round pick who performed so poorly during training camp that the 49ers placed him on season-ending Injured Reserve before the season began. He may never make the team.

Brayden Willis
A seventh-round choice who appeared in ten games, including all three postseason games, caught zero passes, and incurred a holding penalty in overtime of the Super Bowl. It’s hard to claim he has a bright future.
