The Memphis Grizzlies have been in desperate need of backup. Without Ja Morant, the team has been battered by injuries, and it appears that some stars may be returning soon.
According to Jonah Dylan of the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins stated that the team will have an update on Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart within “the next day or so.”
Brandon Clarke, who suffered a torn Achilles last season, may also be able to return soon. Clarke had teased a return around All-Star weekend, and it appears that timeline is still on track.
“I believe there will be a more formal update on Des and Marcus within the next day or so,” Jenkins told Jonah Dylan. “BC is on a good path; he hopes to return before the end of the season, but there is no set timeline. His workouts have gone well; he hopes to do some more live stuff with limited contact. Hopefully, in the coming weeks, we’ll have a little more of a ramp-up for him.”
Aside from those three stars, the Grizzlies will get additional help from Jake LaRavia, who has been missing since January 13.
“He should be available tomorrow,” Jenkins explained to Dylan. “He was a full participant in practice and looked great. We’ll go over the minutes and other details, but he should be ready to go tomorrow.”
After dealing with a slew of injuries, the Grizzlies are now 8.5 games from a playoff spot. They’re unlikely to make the play-in tournament, but getting injured players back is never a bad thing.
