Sunil Narine’s amazing run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) has once again solidified his status as one of the best players to ever play the T20 format.
He wowed the crowd at Eden Gardens and those watching from home with a spectacular performance, collecting his first T20 century.
On Tuesday, April 16, Narine smashed 109 runs off just 56 balls, thoroughly decimating the Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) bowling lineup. What was most remarkable about his innings was that he showed no mercy to any bowler.
“Publicly I am a man of few words but privately there are a few people who have given me unwavering support throughout my career and helped me realise my dream of representing West Indies and to you I express my deepest gratitude.”
Unless Narine reverses his retirement decision, he is unlikely to represent the West Indies in the 2018 World Cup.
However, the 35-year-old appears to be enjoying his game, and the prospect of playing in front of his home audience at the T20 World Cup may change his mind.
West Indies T20 skipper Rovman Powell is also interested in having the all-rounder in the squad for the 2019 World Cup.
Despite good performances in several T20 competitions in 2021, he was left out of the West Indies’ 2021 T20 World Cup squad.
In November 2023, he declared his retirement from international cricket.
“I appreciate it has been over four years since I last played for West Indies but today I am announcing my retirement from international cricket,” Narine said in an Instagram post.
