Sunil Narine’s blistering run in the IPL has made him a top contender for the T20 World Cup in June, with West Indies skipper Rovman Powell admitting he has been trying to persuade Narine to come out of retirement and play in the Caribbean and the United States.
Narine, 35, declared that he would retire from international cricket in 2023, four years after his last match for West Indies.

The spin bowling all-rounder eventually became a full-time franchise cricketer, but his performance appeared to be dwindling in recent seasons. This year, however, Narine has emerged as a formidable T20 player.

Following the match, Powell stated that Narine had been on the West Indies management’s radar for some time.
“For the last 12 months, I’ve been whispering in his ears, but he’s blocked out everyone,” Powell added, referring to Narine’s decision to retire. “I’ve asked [Kieron] Pollard, [Dwayne] Bravo, and [Nicholas] Pooran. Hopefully, before they select the team, they can crack his code.”
When asked if he will come out of retirement to compete in the World Cup, Narine was enigmatic, particularly given that a large section of the tournament will take place in the Caribbean.
“It is what it is, but let’s see what the future holds,” she remarked.
