“I’m sure we’ll continue that work as the legal process plays out,” Mahomes said in a statement.

When asked if Rice would participate in person when the team returns to Kansas City, Reid said the team is “just going to take it day-by-day here as we go.” When asked how the club will decide how to proceed with Rice’s potential future involvement, Reid reaffirmed that the organization will wait for the legal process to play out.

“Yeah, we’ll see how it goes,” Reid replied. “I want to continue gathering information from law enforcement, and we’ll see where things go from there. Allow the process to take place.”

Later in the press conference, Reid was questioned about Rice’s present situation with the team as they begin their offseason program.

“Yeah, so, there’s no real participation other than by Zoom, so he’ll participate in that,” he stated. “Aside from that, we don’t have anything going on here [at the Kansas City facility] that he could be part with. So, to answer your question, he’s using Zoom. And, just to reiterate, it is voluntary, so as we move forward, it will be a part of it.”

Also speaking on Monday, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes stated that he has worked with Rice during the offseason as he arranges sessions for many of the team’s pass catchers in Texas.

Finally, Reid was asked how he and the organization perceive Rice now, as well as whether they continue to trust Rice and his decision-making in the future.

“Well, yeah, listen, as long as he’s learned from it, that’s the important part of it,” he replied. “We’ll take it from there and see what takes place, but right now we’re just kind of gathering everything and trying to make sure we have all the bases covered.”
