On Saturday, No. 7 North Carolina will host Virginia Tech in an ACC game at the Dean E. Smith Center.
The Tar Heels (19-6 SU, 14-11 ATS) are coming off a disappointing loss at Syracuse on Tuesday. The Hokies (14-10 SU, 11-13 ATS) upset Florida State 83-75 earlier this week.
Here, we look at the Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina odds, props, and projections to find the best bets for Saturday’s ACC matchup. Let’s cash in some winning tickets!
North Carolina leads the ACC standings with an 11-3 record, while Duke (10-3) and Virginia (10-4) are close behind.
Virginia Tech betting news: Hokies mired mid-pack in the ACC standings.
The Hokies are 6-7 in ACC play and have failed to defeat a club ranked in the top 20 this season. They will have that opportunity on Saturday against a UNC club that has struggled with success in recent years.
UNC leads the all-time series 72-17, but Virginia Tech has won the last two games. Virginia Tech will need to improve its road performance after going 1-6 this season. The Hokies have also lost three out of their last four games:
Va Tech beat FSU 75-83, while Duke defeated Va Tech 77-67.
Miami 82, Virginia Tech 74.
Notre Dame 74, Virginia Tech 66.
Guard Sean Pedulla leads the Hokies in scoring, averaging 15.9 per game. Hunter Cattoor, a backcourt companion, follows with 14.5 points per game. Virginia Tech leads the ACC in two-point field goal percentage and is second in three-point shooting. Given that, UNC defenders will need to close out on shooters, particularly from the perimeter.
Virginia Tech could benefit from facing a UNC club that has suddenly become soft on defense. The Tar Heels have allowed at least 80 points in three of their last four games.
North Carolina betting news: Tar Heels are doing their best. Jekyll and Hyde impersonations of late
After winning ten consecutive games, North Carolina has dropped three of their last five. Syracuse’s zone defense troubled the Tar Heels on Tuesday. On the defensive end, they allowed Syracuse to shoot an impressive 63% from the floor.
North Carolina performs best when Armando Bacot gets involved early on offense. That was the case against Duke, where Bacot scored a season-high 25 points in UNC’s largest win of the season. However, UNC’s big man frequently struggles to get off to a fast start.
Notre Dame Transfer Cormac Ryan was a bright spot in the loss against Syracuse. Ryan played the entire 40 minutes and finished with 20 points, his second highest total after scoring 20 in a loss against Kentucky.
Moving forward, North Carolina will need to find its defensive identity. Hubert Davis used the full-court press earlier in the season, and it might be time to deploy it again.
Do-everything R.J. Davis, a senior guard, leads UNC with 21.4 points per game, which is also an ACC best. Bacot leads the conference in rebounding with 10.2 per game.
If North Carolina wants to turn things around, these two veterans will need to take the lead. They’re both battle-tested and have experience playing in the NCAA.
Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina Prediction ATS
Virginia Tech turned things around with a solid victory over Florida State on Tuesday. As previously said, the Hokies have struggled on the road. Their lone victory came at NC State. Still, this is a lot of points to give a generally high-scoring team, and North Carolina has been giving up a lot to opponents lately.
