The Bulldogs have scored a significant coup by re-signing rugged prop Max King to a long-term contract.
Wide World of Sports said last month that, with a statewide shortage of experienced props, King is in high demand.
The pocket battleship is one of the few outstanding front-rowers whose contracts will expire at the end of 2024, and rival teams have been vying for his services.
However, Bulldogs insiders have told Wide World of Sports that the club has negotiated an agreement to keep the 26-year-old forward, who has been their most consistent player since signing from the Storm two years ago.
King and his manager are set to sign a new three-year contract in the coming days, avoiding a bidding war.
Only a few weeks ago, Bulldogs expert Phil Gould told Wide World of Sports that the team was anxious to re-sign King.
“We are keen to keep Max – he’s a great kid and been very good for us,” Gould told the newspaper.
King has an incredible rugby league history; his great-grandfather Cec played for Souths in the 1940s, his grandfather Johnny was a standout in the Dragons squad of the 1950s and 1960s, appearing in seven of their 11 consecutive grand final victories, and his father David played for Gold Coast in the 1990s.
Expect a formal announcement in the following days.
