The news comes just two days before the 21-year-old is set to make his 50th NRL appearance against the Eels at BlueBet Stadium on Friday.
“I’m overjoyed to re-sign with the club. Even though I’ve already been here for a few years, it’s nice to secure my future with my hometown club for another few years,” Tago added.
“Most of the team are Panthers juniors and we’ve all got a special relationship, so for me to stay here for as long as I can is something I’m excited about.”
Tago, a junior at St Marys, has moved on from the Panthers’ junior.
The development system has produced an international representative who has played 49 NRL games for the Panthers and three Test matches for Samoa.
In addition to re-signing with the Panthers, Tago will play his 50th NRL game against the Eels on Friday night at BlueBet Stadium. Sua Fa’alogo has signed a new contract that will keep him in Melbourne for the next five years.
The 20-year-old has been promoted to the top 30 list for the 2024 season following a strong NRL and international debut last season with Samoa.
“I’m a proud Melbourne kid and Samoan. My family is here, and I used to play football with Northern Thunder. “The opportunity to be a part of the Storm is a dream come true,” Fa’alogo remarked.
The Bulldogs have improved their front row by signing former Rabbitoh and Rooster Daniel Suluka-Fifita. The 24-year-old was released by South Sydney from the final two years of his contract and will join Belmore on a two-year deal. Suluka-Fifita is currently rehabbing from an ACL injury and is expected to return to play in May.
The news of Suluka-Fifita’s signing comes after the Dogs signed 2018 premiership winner and former Kiwi international Zane Tetevano on a one-year agreement.
The 33-year-old has spent the last three years in the Super League with Leeds, having previously played for the Panthers in 2020.
Tetevano has played three Tests for New Zealand and ten matches for the Cook Islands, including last year’s Pacific Championships. Meanwhile, the Roosters have extended vice-captain Luke Keary’s contract until the end of the 2025 season, ahead of Sunday’s game against the Broncos in Las Vegas.
The 32-year-old three-time premiership winner signed a one-year contract extension with the Roosters, where he has played 142 games since joining in 2017.
“I’m really pleased to extend my contract with the Roosters for another year. I’m still motivated to improve as a player, and we have a wonderful team here, so I’m optimistic about what we can do over the next several years,” Keary said.
The revelation comes after Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves confirmed he will join Hull KR in 2025 after retiring from the NRL in the 2024 season. Broncos captain Adam Reynolds has signed a contract extension until the end of 2025, which would be his 14th season in the NRL.
Reynolds played 231 games for the Rabbitohs over 11 seasons before joining Brisbane in 2023 and leading the team to the grand final.
His career total of 2254 points ranks fourth all-time, after only Cameron Smith, Hazem El Masri, and Jarrod Croker.
“We all know what Reyno brings to our club – he is our leader and our general and he has made a huge impact in a short time here at the Broncos,” Kevin Walters, the team’s head coach, stated.
“He has made a home here in Brisbane with his family, and our supporters have really adopted him as one of their own – Reyno is very much one of ‘us’ now here in the Sunshine State.”
Meanwhile, the Knights have extended promising shooter Fletcher Sharpe and signed Fijian flyer Laitia Moceidreke to a full-time development agreement. Sharpe, 19, was previously under contract with the Knights until 2025, but he has signed a one-year extension until at least the end of 2026, as well as an immediate elevation to the Club’s Top 30.
Meanwhile, Moceidreke, 23, has been promoted to a development contract after joining the team in the middle of the 2023 season.
The Dragons have signed Samoan forward Luciano Leilua to a three-year agreement that begins immediately.
The 27-year-old will return to the NRL club for which he made his debut in 2016.
