Fletcher Cox, the Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle, has announced his retirement from the NFL after 12 seasons.
Cox, 33, announced his retirement via Instagram on Sunday morning. The defensive tackle praised the Eagles’ front office, staff, past teammates, Philadelphia fans, and family members in the message.
“After much reflection, I have made the decision to retire from the game of football,” he said. “I devoted everything I had to this squad and this city. I’m not sure what’s ahead for me, but I’ll be forever grateful for my time in Philadelphia and with the Eagles organization. “Go birds!”
The announcement comes less than a week after Eagles center Jason Kelce announced his retirement during a press conference last Monday.
The Eagles selected Cox from Mississippi State with the 12th overall choice in the 2012 NFL Draft. The defensive tackle spent his entire 12-year career with Philadelphia, where he won a Super Bowl after the 2017 season.
In honor of Jason Kelce’s retirement, Drew Brees has announced a scholarship for walk-ons.
