Despite only one loss last season, the Georgia football team missed the College Football Playoff for the first time in three seasons. A loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship forced the CFP committee’s hand, and the Bulldogs were knocked out of the four-team playoff field by one spot. Kirby Smart and Georgia football will attempt to return to the postseason next season, when the CFP expands to 12 teams. Las Vegas is optimistic about its chances, with returning quarterback Carson Beck having the best odds to win the Heisman Trophy next season, according to FanDuel Sportsbook’s latest pre-spring odds.
Beck remains tied in the top spot in the most recently released odds to win the Heisman Trophy Award with Texas Longhorns gunslinger Quinn Ewers. The Heisman hopeful announced his decision to return to Texas next season after throwing for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns. The Longhorns will play in the SEC next fall.
Carson Beck is the co-favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.
Quarterback Carson Beck will return to Georgia football in 2024 for his fifth season with the program. From 2021 to 2023, he played behind two-time College Football Playoff champion Stetson Bennett. Their longtime signal-caller left after the 2022 title, allowing Beck to take over. In his first season, the six-foot-four, 215-pound quarterback threw for 3,941 yards, the second most in franchise history. He also completed 72.4% of his passes, ranking fourth in the country for that metric. According to 247Sports, Beck has 11 straight games with 250 passing yards, which is the same amount Bennett had during his record-breaking year in 2022. He finished with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Beck played well in the SEC Championship despite losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide, throwing for 243 yards with no scores or interceptions. He completed 72% of his passes. Meanwhile, he went 13 of 18 for 203 yards and two touchdowns with no picks in his team’s beatdown of the Florida State Seminoles in the Orange Bowl.
